Introduction
A fundamental aspect of the Club is to actively encourage all members
to become qualified in navigation and sailing skills. This enables
boats to be crewed up with the maximum number of experienced members,
ensuring that everyone sails in a safe environment. The main qualifications
involved are those from the RYA.
The main theory courses for RYA Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper and
Yachtmaster have generally been done by members going to local evening
classes, although as from 2008 the Club can now offer its own Day Skipper course. Members will then often take the corresponding RYA practical
courses in conjunction with a Solent based sailing school.
For other RYA shore-based courses, the Club generally arranges
these so that members go on courses together and have the advantage
of lower prices. In 2008 the Club will be offering its own internal courses for Diesel engine, CEVNI and Short Range Certificate.
As well as RYA courses, the Club organises various evening talks
to update members on a variety of subjects relevant to sailing - see the Social page.
Practical training may also be offered from time to time by Club
members on their own boats.

Members interested in doing an RYA theory course at Adult
Education Classes 2007/08
All the courses offered in Surrey and also the boroughs of Croydon,
Kingston and Sutton.
The courses start in September and comprise one evening class a
week for 2 terms. In general they are the most cost efficient way
of taking the qualifications. Please note the prices for the Surrey
CC and Croydon courses include the RYA fees, however the others
may not.
It is always best to enrol as soon as possible and well before the
course start date, because sometimes courses do not go ahead because
of lack of numbers.
